Farm to School Training
Monday, June 27, 2016 we are offering a farm to school training in Kearney as a pre-conference session to the Nebraska Student Nutrition Association conference. School food service staff and fruit and vegetable growers are both invited to attend. There will be separate trainings for the groups, and then a combined opportunity to network and share with the school, detailing what it is that your farm offers. An optional lunch will be provided for free within the larger conference at 11:45. Mileage reimbursement is available for food producers. Advanced workshop and lunch registration is requested. Record Keeping for Grazing Systems--It's Not Just Spreadsheets Anymore
June 29. Online. This free, one-hour webinar is presented by the East National Technology Support Center of the Natural Resources Conservation Service. The webinar's purpose is to help NRCS staff realize that there are several record keeping systems available to livestock producers, several of them by apps through the producer's smart phone, tablets, or laptop computers. These 'other' record keeping systems have been developed by farmers and ranchers themselves, as well as some land grant universities. Hops Seminar

The University of Nebraska Department of Agronomy and Horticulture is offering a free informational seminar on the production of hops for hobbyists and those interested in the potential for growing this specialty crop for profit. Poultry Processing Job
We have added pastured poultry to our farm, and will be processing them on-farm, so we're looking to fill one or two more positions for very part-time work. We will slaughter and process once every two weeks beginning Monday, June 6th and continuing through September. Pay is hourly, and subject to employment taxes. Omaha area gardens sought for milkweed/monarch research project
I am studying monarch caterpillar survivability in conservation areas compared to residential gardens. I am asking for help in locating people with gardens that could be part of my study. I would need to visit a garden once every four days throughout the summer. An ideal garden should have at least ten milkweed plants from two species. We will have small quantities of milkweed (swamp milkweed & common milkweed) that we can provide to help bring the garden’s total milkweed to the number needed. New Farm Storage Facility Loan
The Farm Storage Facility Loan (FSFL) Program administered by the FSA has expanded to include some new eligible commodities. The new commodities eligible for facility loans include floriculture, hops, rye, milk, cheese, butter, yogurt, meat and poultry (unprocessed), eggs, and aquaculture (excluding systems that maintain live animals through uptake and discharge of water). Commodities already eligible for the loans include corn, grain sorghum, rice, soybeans, oats, peanuts, wheat, barley, minor oilseeds harvested as whole grain, pulse crops (lentils, chickpeas and dry peas), hay, honey, renewable biomass, and fruits, nuts and vegetables for cold storage facilities. Loan applications should be filed in the administra-tive FSA office that maintains the farm’s records.
